# Fields

Fields are properties you can add to a page, such as status, owner, due date, deal value or an attached file. You define them once here and reuse them on any page, card or template.

## The field library

Click **New field**, give it a name and a type. The type cannot be changed afterwards.

- **Text**, **Number**, **Date**, **Checkbox**, **Link**
- **Select**, with options you name and colour, and **Multi-select**
- **Person**, a member of the workspace
- **File**, one attached file

Owners and admins can edit and delete fields here. Anyone who can edit a page can also create a field from the page itself, so a team need not wait for an admin.

## Use fields on a page

On a page, click **Add field** and choose one from the library, or make a new one. A page with fields shows them in a column beside the content. Drag the divider to give them more or less room; your choice is remembered in this browser. The **x** on a field removes it from that page only.

People editing the same page see each other's changes to fields at once.

## Attach a file

A **File** field holds **one file**. When you create it, set the **largest file** (1 to 25 MB) and the **accepted files**: images, documents, or common files.

On a page or card, click **Upload a file** in the field. A picture shows a small thumbnail, and every file shows its name and size. Click the name to download it. **Replace** swaps the file for another, and the **x** removes it. The old file is deleted at once.

To attach more than one file, add more File fields to the page, for example "File 1" and "File 2".

- Files are private. They have no public address and open only for people who can open that page, so they follow the page's sharing. A locked, archived or view-only page lets you open the file but not change it.
- Files count against your workspace's storage, which you can see in [📊 Usage and plan limits](https://docs.wrightdesk.com/workspace-settings/usage-and-plan-limits).
- Removing the field from a page, or deleting the page and its sub-pages, deletes the files. A file that never made it onto the page is cleaned up after 24 hours.
- Duplicating a page or saving it as a template does not copy its files.
- Files are checked by type but not scanned for viruses.

A form's **File upload** field can fill a card's File field automatically. See [🔗 Send responses to a sheet or a board](https://docs.wrightdesk.com/forms/send-responses-to-a-sheet-or-a-board).

## Good to know

- Select options are stored by identity, so renaming an option updates every page that uses it.
- Page templates can carry default values for their fields.
- Boards use fields for their cards. See [🎛️ Board settings: states and fields](https://docs.wrightdesk.com/boards/board-settings-states-and-fields).
- Defining a new field needs a plan that includes fields. Values already on pages stay editable if the plan changes.
- Agents and API clients can see a File field's name and size and can clear it, but files are attached in the app.
