# Publish to the web

Publish a page or a whole collection and anyone with the link can read it, without signing in. Use it for documentation, help centres, announcements and public notes. You choose whether search engines list it, and how it looks in search results and in shared links.

## Publish a page

1. Open the page and click **Share**.
2. Choose **Public**. Anyone on the internet with the link can then read the page.
3. Copy the address that appears, or use **Copy public link** from the page's **⋯** menu.

If the page has sub-pages, **Apply to sub-pages too** is ticked by default and publishes them with it. Untick it to publish only this page.

The address looks like `/p/your-page-name`. On a documentation site you can edit the last part of it in the Share window. To unpublish, choose **Workspace** or **Private** in the same window and the address stops working.

Only the page's creator or a workspace admin can publish it.

## Publish a collection

Open the collection's **Share** window and choose **Public**. The collection gets its own address, `/c/your-collection`, with a navigation tree of its pages. Sub-collections that are public appear in the tree too.

Publishing a collection also publishes the pages inside it, sub-collections included, so check them first.

## Search and sharing

Once a page or collection is public, the Share window has a **Search and sharing** section. It controls how the page appears in search engines and when its link is shared in chat or social apps:

- **Let search engines list this page.** On by default. Turn it off to keep the page public by link but ask Google, Bing and others not to list it. It is also left out of the site's sitemap. A page that is already listed can take a while to disappear.
- **Description in search results.** The sentence shown under the title. About 160 characters show.
- **Search keywords.** Words people might search for, separated by commas, up to ten. Google ignores keywords; some other search engines read them.
- **Title and picture.** A title for search results (about 60 characters show) and a share picture for link cards (1200 × 630 pixels works best).

A preview shows how the page will look in a search result and as a shared link. Leave a field empty and NoteMaker fills it in: the page title without its emoji, the first paragraph of the page as the description, and the page's cover as the picture. On a collection, these settings apply to the whole site and its pages inherit them; a page's own settings win.

## What readers see

- The page as you wrote it, in light or dark mode following their device.
- A search box (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) that searches only the published pages of that collection.
- Previous and Next links at the end of each page in a collection.
- No comments, no editing and no sharing controls.

## What stays out

Archived pages go offline while archived and come back when restored. Cards on boards can never be public. Pages that are private to someone else are never shown, even inside a published collection.

## Your own address

A workspace owner or admin can serve a published collection on your own domain, for example `docs.yourcompany.com`, under **Settings → Domains**, if your plan includes custom domains. Once the domain is active, the `/c/` and `/p/` addresses redirect to it. See [🌍 Custom domains](https://docs.wrightdesk.com/workspace-settings/custom-domains).

> [!warning] ⚠️
> Anything on a published page is public, including images and the text of quizzes with their answers. Read the page as a stranger would before you publish.
